POSITION VACANCY

POSITION TITLE: Oral History Cataloger (Associate Academic Librarian)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Oral History Cataloger will catalog 700 titles
(transcripts and tapes) included in the Oral History Program at the
University of Wisconsin - La Crosse.  The position will have responsibility
for supervising staff doing cataloging preparation work and for training
staff for ongoing catalog of new materials at the end of the project.  Some
work may involve production of web pages or a printed catalog.  This
position is funded through an NHPRC grant.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Required: ALA-accredited MLS.  Knowledge of authority
work, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd ed., revised (AACR2r); Library
of Congress Subject Headings, Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) formats.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.   Preferred:  Relevant
post-MLS cataloging experience; experience with library automated systems
and PC based applications.

SALARY (ACADEMIC YEAR):  $33,906 per annum.  Appointment period is for 49
weeks.

STARTING DATE:  July 17, 2000

LOCATION:  La Crosse is famous for its exceptional natural beauty.  The
city (population 51,00) is located on the east bank of the Mississippi
River below towering bluffs.  Abundant water and woodlands provide
year-round recreation sites for skiing, hunting, camping, and other outdoor
activities.  La Crosse is also home to two other colleges, a symphony
orchestra, excellent theatrical and cultural events, and superb health care
facilities.

THE UNIVERSITY:  The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, founded in 1909, is
a public institution governed by the Board of Regents of the University of
Wisconsin system.  With a faculty and staff of more than 450, UW-L serves
more than 8,600 students from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and 32
other states and 28 other countries.  The 119-acre campus is located within
easy walking distance of downtown La Crosse in a residential section of the
city.
