Re: indexing periodicals

I have been fortunate to have a indexing volunteer. She was the person who
first began cleaning up the university archives 25 years ago, although the
archive was strictly a sideline to her other responsibilities. She had
undergrad student workers begin an index of the alumni publication but
quickly realized their skills were limited. After retirement, she wondered
if she might volunteer. We set her up with what we had, wordperfect on a
"286." She created a great reference tool that is used regularly. She
continues to work on similar indexing projects, still on the "286." I
transfer her work to the network regularly. Needless to say, when that
computer no longer works, we will lug it down the hall to the "techie"
cemetery nearby (currently a basement stairwell).
