Re: relocation expenses

That's why I saved a few thousand dollars during the year I was working at
my first job out of library school. This was easy since I didn't have a car
payment or other major bills. I knew that when I finally did get a job, in
or out of state, at a bare minimum, I was going to need a moving van, money
to rent a house or apartment, money to set up new utilities, gas, and food,
particularly since it might have been a whole month before I saw a paycheck.
And I was pretty sure that they would not pay for relocation for anyone.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the above statement.
When I moved from Massachusetts to Washington, D.C.,
the packing materials, U-Haul, and other moving
expenses cost me more than $2500.

This may not be "great expenses" in absolute terms,
but for a recent college grad with a lot of bills it's
very hard to scrape up a couple of thou to start a new
life with. At least a person who sells their home
might make some money on the deal! :)
