Re: Naming rights as a fundraising incentive



Naming rights are, I think, a legitimate incentive toward
contributions.  The problem is that you have to be careful
that the name does not interfere with the casual user in
terms of  understanding your institution.   For example,
the "Thomas Jefferson Archives" could be construed as
being about Thomas Jefferson rather than named for them.

Let's see....the Betty Crocker Reading Room, of the Aaron
Burr Memorial Archives, in the George Washington Building
of ...   I personally prefer funded endowments that you can
then attach to anything like "This exhibit funded in part by the
Betty Crocker Memorial Endowment" or "This publication
produced with funding from the Betty Crocker Memorial
Foundation."
