Also, think in terms of :

a server/s for publication-distribution. Separate as suggested is good,
but machines are getting so fast that huge separate scsi drives or a RAID
array off the one machine is viable

a separate server/s on your a local LAN to do development on and upload
from your actual workstations

Otherwise you'll have all sorts of firewalling problems between your
development areas and your open areas, quadrupling the overall speed
problems. You can however think cheap screens and related peripheral stuff
because they're not used for much except just sitting in the corner humming
away. Any work moving files around and setting up things can be done
externally from you workstations.

[You really need good technical and sysprog support to consider machine
needs for all your purposes and twig what ever set up you get. Preferably
answering to you rather than telling you what you need, however they can
optimise any set up better than the best of us can because that's their
job. The above two to four small servers [though they don't sound small]
might also be done with two or even one Huge machine, but that could cost
more than four smaller machines but be set up to deliver to hundreds or
thousands of users simultaneously. Tuesday's an awful short lag time by the
way.]   {That is a bit confused but I think you can see my meaning}

and consider what your workstations need in terms of RAM etc.
