Re: Archives in the movies

Part of the Patriot was filmed in the our county (York, SC).The movie
people never bothered to use our archives to search for original records
related to the period in the Carolina Piedmont. I really didn't expect it.
However, they did work with our curator of decorative arts and filmed a
large portion of their scenes at one of our sites (Historic Brattonsville)
using many of our objects. Our small town had stars in their eyes. How
funny. Really, it was a big deal to people here. The documentary "History
vs. Hollywood"(?) was on the history channel last night discussing the
movie. It also was filmed at Historic Brattonsville.
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I expect fiction, otherwise I won't enjoy
it!! The shame is, as others pointed out on the list, to portray things
inaccurate when the history is even more interesting than the fiction.
I now have a Patriot collection in the archives - script, photos, etc...
The Patriot ferver is still thriving in this part of the country.
