                            EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ARCHIVIST



The Council of Nova Scotia Archives requires the services of a
professional archivist to conduct its Education and Outreach program.
Under the direction of the CNSA Executive, the
successful candidate will be required to:

Provide advisory and information services to Council of Nova Scotia
Archives members, and potential members, on issues relating to archives
establishment, archival policy and
procedure development and implementation of RAD;

Identify training and education needs of CNSA members, and potential
members, and assist in the design, development and delivery of training
sessions at introductory and intermediate levels;

Work with, and support, ArchWay, the provincial archival database;

Work with the CNSA Executive Board, other CNSA committees and the
provincial cultural/heritage community to develop and implement programs
to promote, encourage and enhance the development of archives in Nova
Scotia;

Represent the CNSA at selected meeting, conferences and hearings;

Provide research and writing services for advocacy initiatives as
directed by the CNSA Executive;

Provide assistance with preparation of grant applications.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in archival studies, with at least two years'
experience, or five years' archival experience supplemented by an
advanced program of archival training. Thorough knowledge of archival
theory and practice, including the application of Rules for Archival
Description. Superior analytic, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability and willingness to work independently with minimal supervision
and sometimes on weekends and irregular hours. Familiarity with
automated systems and their application to archives would be an asset.
Candidates must posses a valid driver's license as the position requires
considerable travel.

Location:

Halifax, Nova Scotia (offices at Nova Scotia Archives and Records
Management building)

Salary:

$1300 - $1500 bi-weekly (plus benefits and expenses)

Duration of contract:

Beginning August 21st (if possible) for a 10-12 month period, to be
negotiated. There is potential for employment with the CNSA beyond this
contract.
