Re: Question About a Photo

Actually, blood collected in drives during WWII was not used as whole blood (it's true, we didn't have the capability of transporting it). In 1940, Edwin Cohn, A Harvard biochemist, developed a method for isolating the blood protein, albumin, from whole blood. Albumin could be stored for long periods without spoiling, and worked as an effective blood substitute (just add water, and mix!). The first real life test of this blood product was at Pearl Harbor.
