Project Asst., New Jersey



Position:  Project Assistant to work on a one-year National Historical
Publications and Records Commission-funded project to arrange and describe
18th- and 19th-century manuscript collections relating to the history of New
Jersey.

Responsibilities: Responsible for rehousing materials, preservation
photocopying, preparing box/folder inventories, assisting with arrangement
and description of manuscript collections, labeling, scanning, assisting
with Web development, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:  Bachelors degree in history or related field with
excellent work habits and strong communication skills.  Experience handling
historic materials preferred.  Must be capable of lifting forty-pound boxes.

Salary/Benefits:  Starting salary of $24,000 plus two weeks vacation, paid
holidays and health benefits.

The New Jersey Historical Society, founded in 1845, is the state?s oldest
cultural institution, with rich museum and library collections, and
innovative education and exhibition programs.  The Society is located in an
attractively renovated building four blocks from Penn Station in Newark.
