The National Church Archives' research office in Austin is inviting
applications for the position of archivist for access services and
collections management.  The archivist is responsible for planning and
implementing archival methods and technologies to improve corporate and
public access to holdings.  The position includes accountability for
cataloging, archival description, Internet/Web publication standards,
and other metadata concerns; will work with staff to implement industry
conventions and to formulate local standards for reaching corporate
audience and measuring performance; responsible for management of
archival inventory.   The archivist will have a leadership role in
devising new forms of intellectual control and exploring modern
communications technology to publish digital information resources.  The
job will call for a person with a keen interest in new and strategic
uses of  technology for the benefit of the Archives' several user
communities.  The Archives operates within a non-profit organizational
setting.  Its work is based on providing institutional research support.
Six full time and several part-time employees work at the research
office in Austin and the headquarters in New York City.
Qualifications: Advanced degree in archives, library or related field of
information science is preferred along with two years experience in
archival work; however, demonstrated experience in a related field of
information management will be given strong consideration; should have
familiarity with computer systems in general and experience with
electronic record keeping, including knowledge of standard data exchange
formats and Internet-based publishing and encoding.  Some knowledge of
the history of American religion is preferred, but an appreciation for
the contribution of faith communities is essential.  Excellent oral and
written communication skills are required.
Salary: range $35,000 to 45,000 DOE; excellent health and leave
benefits.
