The Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York
Presents Its Fall Workshop 2000

INTRODUCTION TO ORAL HISTORY

Ronald J. Grele will lead this workshop on Friday, November 3, at the
National Archives Northeast Region Office, 201 Varick Street, from 9:30
am to 4:30 pm. The workshop will introduce participants to the oral
history process. Participants will learn about project design and
planning; interview protocol, procedures, and techniques; equipment;
transcription; processing, indexing, and abstracting; public
presentation; and the legal and ethical issues associated with oral
history.

Dr. Grele is Director of the Columbia University Oral History Research
Office. He is author of _Envelopes of Sound: The Art of Oral History_,
as well as numerous articles on the theory and method of oral history.
Dr. Grele is past president of the Oral History Association and lectures
widely on the theory and use of oral history. The Columbia University
Oral History Research Office is the oldest and largest organized oral
history program in the world. Founded in 1948 by Pulitzer Prize winning
historian Allan Nevins, the oral history collection now contains over
7,000 taped memoirs, and over 700,000 pages of transcript.

Archivists Round Table Workshop Refund and Cancellation Policy:
Registrants canceling a registration must notify ART's Education
Coordinator in writing at least one week prior to the date of the
workshop to be eligible for a refund. No refunds will be given after
cancellation deadline of October 27, 2000. If a workshop is cancelled,
registrants will receive a full refund. For additional information,
