Archivists Round Table workshop

The Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York
Presents Its Spring Workshop

Fire? Flood? Insects? Mold?
DISASTER STRIKES! BE PREPARED!

This full-day workshop on emergency preparedness will cover the disaster
planning process, initial emergency response activities and necessary
supplies, health and safety concerns, and staff training. Having an
emergency response plan has many benefits including identification of
areas of risk and hazard, establishment of procedures and systems to
mitigate potential risks, determination of collection priorities, and
development of procedures for quick response to limit damage to
collections.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at the National Archives
Northeast Region Office and will be led by Jill Rawnsley, Director of
Preservation Services at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic
Artifacts in Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Rawnsley conducts preservation
planning surveys; provides technical consultation on preservation issues
for libraries, archives, museums and historical societies; conducts
workshops and seminars on preservation topics; and assists institutions
with writing emergency preparedness and response plans. Before joining
the Conservation Center in 1989, Ms. Rawnsley worked as Head of Public
Services at the University of the South in Tennessee, and was the social
science reference bibliographer at the University of Notre Dame. She has
an MA in Library Science from Drexel University.
