ANNOUNCES RECRUITMENT FOR

ADMINISTRATOR, NEVADA STATE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES

APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: Up to $71,660.  Range reflects retirement
contributions by employee and employer.  Employer-paid contribution plan is
available with a reduced gross salary.

RECRUITMENT FOR:  Permanent, full-time vacancy located at the Department of
Museums, Library and Arts, State Library and Archives, Carson City, Nevada.
To receive consideration, applicants must indicate their availability to
work in this geographical location. The position is currently in classified
state service for all purposes except removal.

POSITION:  The Division Administrator is responsible for planning and
developing statewide library service, administering federal and state funds
to public libraries, serving information needs of state government,
continuing education for library staff, certification of librarians,
representing the state in local, state, regional, and national programs for
library services and development, and oversight of the Division's
archives/records and micrographics/imaging programs.  The Division
Administrator currently serves as the State Librarian. DMLA seeks a
visionary professional with appropriate administrative experience to direct
the multi-faceted components of the Division, prepare and administer a
budget, interact with legislators, serve on the Director's management team,
and supervise professional and non-professional staff.  Must have ability to
communicate effectively with state government, management, library
community, and the public so as to promote support and appreciation for
programs and activities that will meet the needs of Nevada citizens.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Interested persons must have a Master's degree in Library
Science from an ALA-accredited school of library science or be certified by
the Academy of Certified Archivists and a minimum of five years of
experience in library administration at the upper management level in a
public or academic library or 5 years of archival experience in an
administrative capacity.  Should exhibit thorough knowledge of many concepts
of library and archives philosophies, technology, policy development, and
management practice and projection, as well as an understanding of political
and legislative processes and relationships.  Must demonstrate
organizational, oral, and written communication skills, ability to interact
well with co-workers, and excellent interpersonal skills.  Must have
experience in agency management and budgeting, needs assessment, planning,
program development, administration of state and federal programs,
coordinating/developing services, establishing operating policies, and
effectively utilizing a diverse staff.
