Speaker  Biography -

 Judy Labovitz
 Associate Director and Senior Business Consultant
 Electronic Records Management
 Merck & Co., Inc

Judy has worked in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry for over
twenty-five years. She has managed technical libraries, corporate records and
Basic and PreClinical Information Systems. In her present position as Senior
Business Consultant, Electronic Records Management, Judy has been involved in
developing Merck's document information architecture environment,
establishing records retention schedules for clinical and regulatory
electronic databases and preparing guidelines for electronic records
management and archiving.

Judy received her B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Texas,
Austin; her M.S. degree in Library Science from USC and a U.S. Public Health
Post-Masters Fellowship in Biomedical Libraries and Information from Wayne
State University, Detroit.


Topic Description: Understanding the Operational Challenge of Electronic
Records Management

The presentation will briefly identify some of the goals and benefits of good
electronic records management followed by a discussion of required
organizational skills. The majority of the time will be spent in discussing
the challenges of implementing electronic document management systems that
are practical and meet good record keeping practices.
