Re: Simple Questions

Clair,
I just finished my undergrad in History and am currently an intern in the
field of archives and collections. As I have enjoyed the work and
historical focus of the job I, too, have begun looking at grad programs in
archives. I would suggest that if you already have experience in the field
and can afford to continue school, do so. As has been pointed out to me
recently, the "History degree and some experience" line will only get you so
far. The grad degree will take you much farther in the career.

Some of the programs I've found to be "tops" are U.of South Carolina,
Indiana, Bloomington, UT-Austin, U of Maryland, and Washington State. The
types of programs they have and their respective foci vary quite alot. For
example, U of So. Carolina has a Public History Degree and their grad
program seems to focus on the combination of the two fields, going so far
as to offer a dual Masters trac in MLIS and MA in History.

Good luck and hope this helps,
