Vulcan Northwest is currently seeking an experienced Archivist to create a
historical record of Mr. Paul Allen, and provide an historic context for all
materials related to the family, including personal and corporate history.
The individual fulfilling this role will be responsible for developing and
maintaining procedures for: describing, indexing, classifying artifacts,
reference materials, and electronic resources, as well as determining what
records, documents, publications, etc. should be maintained in the archive.
The ideal candidate will conduct research and manage ongoing oral history
interviews; including film production and transfer; develop storage methods
(electronic and physical) appropriate to maintaining integrity of article
and retrieval as needed; create and maintain appropriate catalogues of
archived articles; and create useful descriptions, such as catalog records,
finding aids, and collection guides, and provide access points, such as
subject, genre, and name headings for the collection.  The Archivist will be
required to hire and manage consultants and contractors to assist in meeting
project goals; oversee collection development, including purchase,
negotiations and legal contracts; and train and/or supervise assistants as
needed.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree or specialized certificate
in library and information studies, public history and/or archives
administration; and five years of professional-level experience in providing
access to museum library or archival collections; or equivalent combination
of education and experience. The position also requires an in depth
knowledge of computers, database systems, and automated search and retrieval
techniques, as well as a thorough knowledge of cataloging, indexing and/or
processing, as well as current and emerging descriptive standards, rules and
conventions.  Excellent interpersonal, organizational and supervisory skills
are a must.
