Re: compact shelving question

Margaret:

Like Jill said earlier, CA State Archives uses manual Spacesaver units on
its 4 floors of stacks, and we're generally pleased with these. If heavily
loaded (especially the tall versions of 10 shelves) the internal propulsion
chains have will occasionally slip (and VERY rarely break). The worst
problems I've encountered are with the pull-out shelves for use in doing a
records search/pull. After 5 years of use here, our Spacesaver pull-out
shelves are breaking...usually on the roller brackets. But then, our 1 cf
records cartons tend to be rather heavy. Still, I'd be sure to ask any
vendor you choose to go with the extent of their service contract or unit
guarantees.

Happy shelving!
