Cataloging printouts of web-based serials
Janet Olson on behalf of NU's serials department asked:
"Would it be considered "radical" to catalog the item in
hand according to the raw, uninterpreted AACR2? And add a note that it's a
printout of an online resource? Have other places tried this? Or has it
been found preferable to go ahead and catalog the item as a computer file,
and make a note and added holdings for the printout?"
A library cataloger at the Minnesota Historical Society recently cataloged a
printout of an opinion issued by the U.S. Supreme Court as published on the
FindLaw website. The decision was to catalog the item in hand (the
printout) as a reproduction of the web file. A linking reference was made
to the website. You may reference this record through the following link.
