        Project Archivist PriceWaterhouseCoopers Archives
                (Temporary Position)

        The Columbia University Rare Book and Manuscript Library is searching for
an experienced archivist to process the records of PriceWaterhouseCoopers,
a premiere American accountancy firm.  Working under the supervision of
our Coordinator of Technical Services at the firm's record storage center
in Greenwich Village, the archivist will be responsible for sorting,
arranging, weeding, and describing files related to the history of the two
firms:  Price Waterhouse (founded 1890) and Coopers & Lybrand (founded in
1898 as Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery).  The collection includes
business papers, photographs, printed materials, and clippings relating to
the activities of the firms and their partners.  The files consist of 160
record storage cartons packed in random order with a preliminary inventory
of their contents.  The archivist will work in a modern private office at
the PriceWaterhouseCoopers records storage center and will have the
assistance of its staff of two. The position is a one-year temporary
professional appointment with the possibility of a second year extension.

        Requirements are:  ALA accredited MLS, with emphasis on archival
management, or an MA in archival management and at least one year of
experience in the field of archival management;  knowledge of and
competence in manuscript and archival management and processing
techniques;  experience with computers, networks, electronic access
techniques (including SGML, HTML, Encoded Archival Description), and
website design;  knowledge of PC-based word processing programs;  ability
to work independently and meet project goals and deadlines;  excellent
communication and interpersonal skills.  Preferred qualifications include
knowledge of 20th century American history and historical research
methods.

        Salary ranges are:  Librarian I:  $39,000 - $48,750;  Librarian II:
$41,000 - $55,350;  Librarian III:  $44,000 - $66,000.  Excellent benefits

and family.
