Re: Stained Glass Research Querry

Check out the website for Chicago's Navy Pier
http://www.navypier.com/attract.html. There is a museum of Stained Glass
there from a private collector who recovered a lot of glass from Chicago
area churches. If you can get contact information for the owner (Mr.
Smith), he may have information for you or know where you can find out more.

Subject: Stained Glass Research Querry

Folks,

I am trying to assist Grace Episcoipal Church in Madison, Wisconsin in
obtaining more information about a stained glass window (installed 1887)
which was designed and produced by a firm in England by the name of:

Cox, Sons, Buckley and Co [or Cox and Son or Cox and Sons or Cox Sons &
Buckley Co.]

Specifically, I am seeking information on the business records of the US
sales office of the British firm, which appears to have operated in New
York City under, in the very late 19th century, the name: Cox Sons and
Buckley.

Any information about the location of papers of this firm would be much
appreciated. It is hoped that the order for the window might have listed
the name of the artist who might have been either W. J. Pearce or Charles
Elliott. So any information on these two artists would be especially
valuable.

Finally, if any of you are aware of additional sources to check on the
topic of stained glass in 19th Century American Churches, I would be most
grateful for that information. We have a copy of the relevant portion of
Francis James Bettley's dissertation "The Reverend Ernest Geldart
(1848-1929) and Late Nineteenth-Century Church Decoration."

Thanks for your help,

Frank Cook
