                               $2,612.25 to $3,662.50 monthly 
Full-time Position. Term appointment; funding available through 09/30/2001; continuance beyond that date subject to availability                                             of additional funding. 

SUMMARY: 

Under indirect supervision, the incumbent will publicize and promote American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) activities by developing and
managing two Native health research databases: the Native Health Research database (NHRD) and the Native Heath History Database (NHHD).
Interacts with tribes, communities, institutions, and organizations to enhance access to information on health issues for AI/AN communities. Solicits,
evaluates, collects, organizes, describes, and preserves resource materials related to American Indian./ Alaska Native health history and health
research. Adds and/or links online publications to the Native Health Research Database and Native Health History Databases by creating online
records with abstracts on AI/AN health research. Manages the databases, provides trouble-shooting, liaison to the WEB Administrator for design
changes, and liaison for updates to the databases. Prepares grants or contracts to maintain and develop the databases and acts as a liaison to state
or federal institutions for records management. The successful candidate will travel to present/demonstrate at conferences and to identify and
gather appropriate materials to be entered in the databases. Have proven writing skills with ability to abstract or summarize technical data
(especially medical). Supervision of staff or students. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: 

Bachelors Degree in a Related Administrative, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences Discipline. Three to five years experience directly related
to the duties and responsibilities specified. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 

Ability to assess objectives and operational requirements and to develop and implement suitable operational policies and/or procedures.
Knowledge of archival concepts, methodology, and techniques. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Knowledge of the historical
contexts governing archival operations. Ability to make evaluative judgments. Ability to develop and maintain indices, bibliographies, and other
reference guides and materials. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to create, compose, and edit
written materials. Ability to interpret client informational needs and to determine appropriate alternative solutions. Ability to communicate technical
information to non-technical personnel. Knowledge of available sources of archival materials. 

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE: 

Experience interacting with or liaison to AI/AN tribes, communities, institutions, and organizations. Experience in identifying, soliciting, describing,
organizing, and archiving documents. Experience in abstracting or summarizing technical documents. Experience in successfully managing projects.
Experience in marketing and publicizing. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Plans and develops archival collections, including participation in the establishment and implementation of policies and standards for the archive.
Analyzes and evaluates print and/or non-print materials to appraise value to posterity; coordinates the acquisition, cataloging, maintenance, and
preservation of valuable material, and the disposition of worthless material. Prepares descriptions and reference aids for use of archives, such as
lists, indexes, guides, bibliographies, abstracts, and microfilmed copies; cross indexes materials as required. Develops and implements procedures
for the acquisition, processing, and preservation of archival materials. Advises and assists researchers in the application of archival materials in
research activities; interprets requirements and supplies and consults on archival information. Requests and/or recommends pertinent materials
available in libraries, private collections, or other sources for inclusion into archives. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Basic Annual Safety Training. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Moderate physical activity. Requires
handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. No or very limited exposure
to physical risk. Successful candidate(s) must be prepared to present degrees, certifications, licenses, etc., to be photocopied and added to
personnel file. Must be legally authorized to work in the USA. Must be at least 18 years of age at the date of hire.
