Re: Free Market Economics was



I wholeheartedly agree with Peter. I just got into this field not too long
ago, and the concept of "marketing" an archive wasn't even mentioned, let
alone thoroughly taught or explained, in university. However, even though
I've only been in the field for six months or so, I can see the evident need
to provide archivists with at least the basics of how to market an archive
and by extension the position of archivist. While grad programs may be slow
to respond to this need, SAA could really be a pioneer on this issue,
legitimizing the need for education on this matter by providing training,
texts, etc. The university programs would be sure to follow.
