One more Onion article
It's OK, I'm checking it on my lunch hour.
This article is an interview with Dr. Demento (I won't bother to explain -
if you don't know who he is, you probably don't want to), in which he
describes (briefly) his struggle to organize his enormous collection of
records/cds/etc., including his attempts to use old reel-to-reel tapes.
Incidentally, he mentions a technique for sticky reel-to-reels - baking them
to remove the sticky stuff. You can only do this and play them once,
because apparently they'll only survive one playing. I had heard of this
once before - Tom Petty released a box set several years back containing
numerous unreleased songs, which he recovered the same way.
Maybe there's a connection to be made here - archivists & Hotpoint? :)

I think you'll have to click the link at the top to the Dr. Demento article.
