Re: Certification



Regarding certification, while it is true that the one-time exam may not be
significant proof of ability, it is currently, in the US the only credential
specifically for Archivists.  Unless I'm mistaken, no US university grants a
masters degree in Archival Studies.  Most MLS programs can have a
"concentration in archives" or a certificate.  Without SAA developing a
procedure similar to the ALA's approval program (how can it without such
degrees existing?), I think the ACA certification is the best we can do for
the time being.  It is at least, as are medical boards, I believe, conferred
by a body of fellow professionals.
