Certification

I can only speak for CPAs, which I am.
Being a CPA means that you have:
1 - a college degree
2 - have passed an academic test which has precious little to do with
the real world.
3 - In most, if not all, states you are required to get 40 hours a year
of continuing professional education, which may (or may not) have
anything to do with what you actually do on the job.
4 - You (or your employer) pay an annual license fee to the state.
The good CPAs, attorneys, doctors stay current with their profession but
we all know of ethical lapses by licensed "professionals".
