Re: Blinds vs. window film

I'm in a mid-1960s library that's almost all glass (Yamasaki was the
architect; great building for people but...). About five years ago the dean
had UV film put on all the windows, and it keeps out UV pretty well. In the
special collections and rare books area, there are also heavy drapes that
help to block the small amount of remaining UV that gets through, and they
help to slow down the temperature exchange between the inside and outside.
Both the film and drapes have been useful here.

Subject: Blinds vs. window film

Hello all,

Our tiny Archives collection is housed in a small room that has a very large
window. I'm sure that the afternoon sunlight that beats into the room
cannot be good for archival material (box or no box), and have asked to get
some blinds for the room.

Our Buildings and Grounds personnel have suggested "window film" which
blocks UV rays. I read a little bit online, and its sounds impressive, but
I wondered if anyone had any experience with this product.

You can respond to me off-list if you like.

Thank you,
Lisa
