Re: Dissertations

Steve
This sounds like the right time to apply technology to the problem. Why
couldn't the microfilm be scanned into a PC such as was discussed earlier
today. The scanned images could then be placed on a separate server and
after say 30 days migrated to an offline repository. The reference
librarians could also look at their use statistics and select those
dissertations that are the ones most likely to be selected. These "high-
use" dissertations could be scanned from microfilm and then a CD burned.
The student would then be provided the CD for use within the library's
confines. Or the dissertation could be scanned and saved in PDF format.
Thus affording the student/researcher with greater search capabilities.

Just a few ideas. Take'm for what they are worth.
