Re: card catalog trivia question
Depending on the thickness of the cards, between 75-100 per inch. A simple way to figure this out is to measure two inches of cards, count them, divide by two, and then use that figure for the whole index.

Hello,
For a proposal I am working on to have a 3x5-card newspaper index converted
to a computer database, I need to estimate about how many cards are in the
typical shelf list drawer. I don't feel like counting, and my cataloging
department doesn't have an estimate on hand.
Does anyone who might have done such a project in the past have a guess?
Thank you,
Heidi
