Part-time jazz archivist position



Job Notice: Part-time Assistant Archivist
Mary Lou Williams Collection

Under the supervision of the Institute of Jazz Studies Archivist and the
Project Archivist, the Part-time Temporary Processing Assistant will
assist in routine, sometimes tedious work of separating Mary Lou
Williams Collection into series, performing basic processing and
preservation activities, and utilizing computer skills toward writing of
on-site and digital finding aids.  The position is funded at 20 hours
per week as part of a Preservation and Access Grant from National
Endowment for the Humanities to process the Williams Collection.

The candidate must possess a bachelor?s degree in the Social Sciences or
Humanities or equivalent work experience in a specialized subject area.
Preferably, the candidate has at least six month?s experience in a
library or archives setting with collections of American popular music
or jazz containing similar materials and formats found in the Mary Lou
Williams Collection.  Job duties require the candidate to have
rudimentary knowledge of archival procedures and preservation issues.
Candidate must also be capable of lifting boxes weighing between 25 and
30 pounds.  Knowledge of music helpful.

Preference will be given to those who can commit to the project through

The Institute of Jazz Studies is the largest special collection and
archives devoted to jazz under university auspices.  The Institute, a
special branch of the John Cotton Dana Library, is located in spacious
and attractive quarters in the library on the New Campus of Rutgers, The
State University of New Jersey.
