EAD Thank You

Thank you to all who responded to my EAD implementation query. Those who
responded overwhelmingly have decided not to implement EAD at this time~
-The barriers to EAD most often mentioned were money, training,
software/technical concerns, and the belief that current practices are
inconsistent and untested. Other barriers mentioned by at least one
respondent included differences in how finding aids are currently written
(if at all) at different institutions, suspicions about whether EAD will pay
off later when new searching and displaying options are available,
administrative resistance to making the investment in staff, training, etc.,
or lack of understanding from administration about the need for
implementation.
-Most respondents who are not implementing EAD at this time have decided to
go with some form of HTML finding aids linked to university/archives web
sites and/or an OPAC. Two respondents simply use Word documents. Another
two respondents have opted to focus on first making all of their collections
accessible on OCLC, RLIN, an OPAC, etc. with MARC records. A few replies
acknowledged that they only wished that their finding aids were available
outside of their physical archive.
-A couple of folks believe that some have resisted EAD and its
implementation so vehemently because of the suspicious tendencies of
individual archivists of international/national standards in general~
