Document Indexer Position at UCSF



Document Indexer, Tobacco Control Digital Archives (Temporary)

The University of California, San Francisco, seeks applications for a
temporary appointment as Document Indexer. UCSF is a health science
university. The schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy, as
well as the Graduate Division, award advanced professional and research
degrees in the basic, natural, and behavioral sciences related to health.

Reporting to the Tobacco Control Digital Archives Project Manager, this
individual will read, index and write abstracts of tobacco industry
documents in digital and paper format. Using database software in a
web-based environment the Document Indexer will create consistent and high
quality research tools for the field of tobacco control. The Document
Indexer will also apply detailed thesaurus terminology to describe the
documents, develop authority control for terms and monitor database
quality, monitor and manage an online data conversion process, and other
responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to analyze and summarize information to enhance
database. Ability to work independently and solve problems. Must have
excellent writing skills, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines,
experience working in a web-based environment, and proficiency with PCs and
database software. Requires BA or BS degree. Prefer MLS degree and indexing
or cataloging experience, familiarity with MeSH, and knowledge of public
health issues.

This is a temporary appointment at 100% through June 30, 2002. It is
anticipated that the Document Indexer will be appointed to the Analyst,
Assistant Administrative series (salary from $35,800 to $59,100 depending
upon qualifications). Position includes benefits.
