Re: More on N. Baker and Double Fold



Putting it another way, the most reasoned, intelligent and well-considered
expression of professional expertise will, as a rule, be overruled by raw
emotion. While this isn't so much a commentary on Baker as it is on how
people react to things, Baker apparently wants to get people's emotions
engaged about his subject. This can be observed from various professional
replies to his work (see http://firstmonday.org/issues/issue5_12/cox/. for
one example); and, no matter how wrong the conclusions one has been swayed
to embrace may be, once someone has his or her mind made up from an
emotional base, it is quite hard to persuade him or her to change it.
