DAMON J. KEITH COLLECTION ARCHIVIST
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY


The Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs of the College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs and the Law School of Wayne State University seek a half-time entry level Archivist for the Damon J. Keith Law Collection of African-American Legal History, located in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs, Walter P. Reuther Library.  The successful candidate will be represented by the American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers (AAUP-AFT).

Duties:  The Keith Archivist will, under the supervision of a senior member of the staff and in consultation with the Director of the Keith Collection: create a collection development policy; ensure that collections are properly processed, catalogued and housed under the policies and procedures of the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs; provide direction and supervision to others assisting in Keith Collection archival activities; assist patrons as they undertake research in the Keith Collection; assist the Keith Collection Director in acquisition efforts; maintain contact with the African-American legal community, both in Michigan and throughout the United States; and undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  Graduate degree in history, library science or other relevant field, completion of a formal archival training program with graduate-level coursework, effective written and oral communication skills.  

Preferred Characteristics Include: Experience in working with the legal and African-American communities, knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact upon the delivery of information, membership in the Academy of Certified Archivists.
