The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking an Archivist for its
Headquarters in Washington, DC (USA).

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be part of a team of archivists involved in the
development and implementation of policies and procedures to manage the
IMFs Archives. Under the direction of the Archivist of the IMF, the
candidate will be responsible for implementing policies regarding the
selection, arrangement, description, preservation and digitization of the
records which are of permanent value and therefore constitute the
institutional memory of the IMF, i.e., the Archives of the Fund.

In carrying out these responsibilities, the candidate will assist in
determining which records are of archival value to the institution and
will assist in appraising records to evaluate whether they meet the
criteria for inclusion in the Archives.

The candidate will be responsible for organizing archival materials and
for writing archival descriptions in accordance with international
standards for archival processing. The processing will involve research to
locate the contextual information necessary to formulate an adequate
description of the material.

The candidate will implement procedures to ensure long-term preservation
of archival materials in all media, including paper, photographs, audio
and video recordings, and electronic media.

The candidate will assist in establishing requirements for the development
of electronic finding aids for archival material.

More specifically, the candidate is expected to:
1.      participate in the formulation of the Archives acquisition policy and
its components by
assembling and analyzing information and by making recommendations on
proposed criteria;

2.      develop and document a processing plan for the first set of the
Archives, i.e., appraised records dating from 1946-1968. Duties include
analyzing archival series, determining their organization, and carrying
out their arrangement, description and preservation;

3.      identify archival material eligible for declassification and
participate in the declassification process by liaising with Archives and
Records Management Records Officers responsible for this process;

4.      participate in establishing requirements for the development of
electronic finding aids for archival material, and recommend solutions.

Qualifications:
--An advanced degree from an accredited university program with
concentration in archives and records management.
--In-depth knowledge of professional archival standards and their
practical
applications.
--Experience in an archival setting along with knowledge of post-WWII
history and/or economics is highly desirable.
--Prior experience in a multicultural institution is also desirable; in
particular, an ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with staff
of different nationalities.
--Strong analytical and writing skills and the ability to plan and
prioritize work assignments are desirable.

This is contractual position, with the possibility of renewal.
