TEAM LEADER FOR SPECIAL COLLECTIONS/UNIVERSITY ARCHIVIST

Eastern Kentucky University Libraries is accepting applications for the
position of Team Leader for Special Collections/University Archivist.  This
person coordinates all activities of Special Collections and Archives, a
unit of the Research & Instructional Services Division.  The collection
consists of 3000 cubic feet of archival, manuscript and multimedia materials
on university and regional history and culture, and a 25,000+ volume
collection of Kentucky literature, history, and genealogy.  The Team Leader
is responsible for obtaining, assessing, organizing, and administering these
collections.  This person is active in all aspects of the Library's
activities such as providing reference service and library instruction for
Special Collections & Archives, collaborating with faculty and
administration in collection and program development, serving on Library and
University committees, and engaging in community and regional outreach.  The
Team Leader supervises the work of a full-time librarian, a full-time
classified employee, and several student assistants.

Location:  Situated where the Bluegrass meets the foothills of the
Appalachians, EKU is located in Richmond, Kentucky, 26 miles southeast of
Lexington.  The metropolitan areas of Cincinnati, Louisville, and Knoxville,
are within a convenient drive, and Berea, a nationally recognized center for
mountain arts and crafts, is 10 miles to the south.  Also, in and around
Richmond are many areas of historic and scenic interest within easy driving
distance.  The community offers an abundance of services, including quality
health care and excellent schools, such as EKU's own Model School.

Qualifications:  We are looking for an appropriate combination of advanced
academic training and work experience.  A master's degree in a related field
such as archives, library science, American history, or American studies is
the minimum requirement.  At least three years of administrative experience
in an academic library/archival environment is strongly desired.  The
successful candidate will be a dynamic, service-oriented leader with good
interpersonal and communication skills; will demonstrate proficiency in
archival procedures and a knowledge of current trends in library and
archival technologies; and will possess a knowledge of the preservation of
materials.  Experience in grant writing and external fund raising is
desired.

This is a 12-month administrative position.  Salary is competitive and
depends on qualifications and experience.  Benefits include tuition waivers,
