Re: REA archives

You might try Ira Galtman, archivist at American Express. Email:
ira.galtman@aexp.com. Tel: 212-64-3054.
Back in 1918, the American Railway Express Agency was formed, which was one
of the regional express agencies. During the early 1900's the U.S. Govt. did
a trust-busting job on all the regionals, took away the express businesses
from the parents and formed a quasi-governmental nationwide agency
resulting in the REA.

Ira may have papers from the original Amex agency leading up to the
amalgamation. There might also be some early records at NARA, but since this
was not wholly a government agency, their records may just have been
auctioned off or thrown away.
