Hotel Reservations

having attended many different conferences over the years I can attest that
more and more hotels are going in this direction. It happened at last year's
ARMA conference in Las Vegas.
What hotels are doing is the same thing that airlines have been doing. Now
if you want to purchase an airline ticket at a good rate you do it weeks in
advance and generally you have to purchase it within 24 hours of making the
reservation. Hotels also are now pricing their rooms based upon demand. Book
early and you may get a cheaper rate, book closer to your arrival date gets
you a higher rate.

I do find it misleading however for conference brochure's to list the per
night room charge AND not list the various taxes and surcharges that apply.
In the future the brochure might list the room rate and then in parenthesis
state "this rate includes all associated taxes, fees and surcharges". that
then is a much more accurate room rate.

for example the current brochure lists the room rates
$125 Single
$165 Double
$165 Single Towers
$205 Double Towers

but then below it states
"A 14.5% sales tax is applicable to the room rate"

Here are the rates with the sales tax
Single $143.13
Double $188.93
Single Towers $188.93
Double Towers $234.73

Information such as the above makes it easier when budgeting for the next
year's conference.
