Re: transferring 3/4" tape

My understanding from having attended a couple A-V preservation workshops is
that the best long-term preservation method would be to put the materials on
FILM (i.e, motion picture film), while for access, you want it in some
digital format (CD). Have you considered transcribing the interviews which
would be another way of preserving the information and providing access in
an alternative format. All expensive propositions; I hope the gift of the
donated tapes comes with some money. Good luck.

Subject: transferring 3/4" tape

Hello-
Our community has a local cable tv program (mostly oral history interviews)
that has been broadcast for years. Most of the shows have been recorded on
3/4" tape. Is it a worthwhile preservation project to transfer the shows
(over 400) to CD? Is digital technology more stable and cost effective in
the long run? Or should we consider other methods to try to preserve the
broadcasts?

Thanks!
