Re: Stupid question, probably

Daniel's question is worthy of answering! Our whole philosophy of
keeping a group of records intact is that it reflects the mind of the
person or organization. If I get a collection that does reflect the
person in that it does include correspondence, letters, etc., then that
philosophy makes sense. But if I get -- in an organizational setting --
a box of Dr. ZXY's papers and all that is there are organization
publications, minutes of meetings, etc. -- none of these authored
by the person or reflecting some exercise in judgemental saving
(like say saving only those articles about his personal interest in
cloning archivists) ... I don't have a problem placing them in the
appropriate files. Even more so if I know that it is a purged
selection and probably purged by others as Daniel suggests.
