Re: Morning sickness in the archives

Seems like she could keep crackers in her handbag, and walk outside the
archives to nibble. Perhaps there is a lounge area nearby where you could
encourage her to rest and snack when she feels nauseous? Or a ladies rest
room where there are couches? That way she could wash her hands after
eating the crackers, to minimize greasy fingers and crumbs.

We do not allow food to be eaten in the archives, nor would we allow food to
be visible in the room. I don't view asking a person to snack outside of the
archives reading room as an unreasonable request. It is a quick trip
outside if someone needs to eat a snack, or use a cell phone, or whatever.

| I had a researcher recently who asked if she could have some crackers
| with her at her desk. I told her no food or drink was permitted in the
| archives. Then she said she was having morning sickness and
| nibbling on the crackers helped her from getting nauseous, so I said
| she could keep a few at her desk. Has anyone else had a similar
| situation at their archives? How have they handled it? It is a small
| question, but I had never thought of it before, so I was curious what
| other archivists would do.
