ARCHIVIST
Position Information
Department: Hamersly Library
Salary: $30,000

General Description
This is a temporary full-time, 12-month position in the University
Archives at Hamersly Library, Western Oregon University. The
incumbent will work closely with other library staff members and will
report to the Library Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree required. Advanced degree preferred. Previous
experience in archives and special collections required or substantial
archival or records management coursework. Excellent written and oral
communication, technical knowledge of archival and special collections
practice, public relations and customer service skills required.
Knowledge of preservation and conservation of archival materials
required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibility for developing the archives and collections of materials
relating to former Oregon Governor Robert W. Straub in the Hamersly
Library and coordinating their development with the further organization
of the University Archives.
Majorfocus: Completion of the Straub project development
proposal, establishment of a timeline for the project, work with
Library staff to identify the need for supplies and exhibit furnishings,
develop an exhibit plan, contact with the Straub family, associates,
colleagues, and friends to secure appropriate materials,
arrangements for duplication of works and items not donated, and the
set-up of appropriate processing and preservation activities.
Theincumbent will also work on developing the University Archives
and be involved in acquiring, appraising, processing, organizing,
interpreting, preserving and making available University Archives
materials.
Somebudgetary and reporting responsibilities.
Provisionof reference assistance to users of archival materials.
Preparationof inventories, collection guides, and finding aids.
