Position Open: Project Manager
The Research Libraries/ Research Library Administration/ The
New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Processing
Project
Eligibility Requirements: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and
Information Studies and substantial relevant experience with special
collections cataloging and archival processing in a research library or
similar institution. Knowledge of MARC AMC and VIM, AACR2rev, LC
classification, EAD, APPM, and other metadata standards and access tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of archival processing standards. Strong
microcomputer skills and demonstrated experience in the application of
library automation, including knowledge of RLIN and/or OCLC. Familiarity
with the issues surrounding encoding, delivering, and searching of
structured documents. Demonstrated experience with project planning,
managing project budgets and preparing clear and concise project reports.
Project and personnel management experience within a research library
including the ability to oversee progress of a large project staff.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
General Description: Under the general direction of the Deputy Director,
The Research Libraries, is responsible for planning, supervising,
coordinating, directing and reviewing the work of the Library for the
Performing Arts Processing Project. Will develop policies and procedures
for non-book cataloging and archival processing. Oversees the processing
of uncataloged archival, audio-visual and other non-book collections in the
Library for the Performing Arts. Interviews, hires and trains project
staff. Establishes project goals and performance benchmarks. In
coordination with Technical Services and Digital Library Program staff,
oversees migration of LPA's legacy databases and delivery system. Works
with ITG on technical system support issues. Prepares reports and planning
documents as necessary. Performs related duties as required.
Under specially allocated funding, this five-year project will process a
backlog of NYPL archival collections and manuscripts, and audio-visual
resources in the field of the performing arts. The Project Manager will
supervise a staff of approximately 30 full-time employees, establish new
procedures, policies, and a technical platform to store, manage, and
deliver resulting bibliographic records, finding aids, and other
inventories.
