Position:               Archivist/Records Manager

About Houston Grand Opera: Since its founding in 1955, Houston Grand Opera has become internationally recognized as one of the innovators in musical theater. Besides presenting works from the standard repertoire, often with a fresh perspective, the company has commissioned and produced 25 world premieres-almost all by American composers. One of the company's foremost goals, in fact, has been to nurture an American presence in opera. The Houston Grand Opera Archives and Resource Center houses over 2,000 linear feet of the most important collection of materials in American opera history. 

Responsibilities: Maintain historical records of Houston Grand Opera up to professional archival standards. Develop and maintain records management program, including document retention schedules. Assist Houston Grand Opera staff, colleagues in the field, and the general public in research of company records.

Duties:
  Implement preservation procedures for wide range of media including: 35mm color slides, videotapes, color and black/white photographs, publications, audio recordings, as well as paper records.
  Consult with departmental liaisons regarding disposition of records, accessioning and processing materials.
  Rapidly respond to requests from Houston Grand Opera staff, members of the media, and the general public in providing access to the vast collection of images, reviews, and information maintained in the Resource Center.
  Be responsible for financial procedures and conforming to budget.
  Develop web-based exhibits to coincide with current opera productions.


Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with archival emphasis and/or archival experience.  Familiarity with the complete MS-Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and digital image scanning. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and arrange files up to 40 pounds. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and be able to communicate effectively with the public.
