Question on appraisers

Am looking to see "what others do" in this situation - I know that we cannot
give a donor an appraisal of a gift - but what do you do when asked to help
in finding an appraiser? I feel uncomfortable giving someone a name and
prefer to give them an organization (i.e American Society of Appraisers) -
but some donors want the work done for them - especially if it is a
significant gift. What is standard practice in this area?

Thanks very much -
