Archivist for Records
Management
The University of Louisville seeks
an archivist to administer and further develop its university-wide program to
manage records in all formats in accordance with state guidelines and
professional best practices.
Position reports to the Director, University Archives and Records
Center. Works closely with records
liaisons in every area of the university, including its eleven schools and
colleges. Presents informational
and training sessions to faculty, staff, and administrators. Oversees two records center facilities
on the edge of the main campus.
Provides reference services. A unit of the University Libraries
System, the University Archives and Records Center is one of seven
libraries. It is known for its
urban history collections, nineteenth and twentieth century records of important
businesses, cultural organizations, social service agencies, and churches, and
personal papers of political figures, scholars, women, and members of the Jewish
and African-American communities.
The archives also administers the university's Oral History Center,
preserving over 1,300 recollections of community leaders, members of ethnic
communities, workers, business executives, and university students, faculty, and
administrators. Finally, the
university?s compliance with federal and state records laws, such as those
regarding access to university records and the privacy of student records, is
overseen by the Director. The University of Louisville is

degree in archives administration, library science, information management,
business administration, history, or other relevant field. Experience with institutional records
management, such as electronic records management techniques, records analysis,
retention scheduling, and archival accessioning. Strong interpersonal, oral, written, and
presentation skills. Demonstrable
computer and information technology skills. Ability to manage change and work
collaboratively in a team environment; ability to work independently. Strong commitment to public
service. Commitment to ongoing
professional development and activity.
Active involvement in appropriate professional
organizations. Rank and salary commensurate with
qualifications; $33,000 minimum.
This is a full‑time faculty position with a renewable, non‑tenurable
contract. Promotion requires a
successful demonstration of scholarship, among other criteria. U of L offers an excellent benefits
