DUTY LOCATION: Washington, DC

DUTIES: The incumbent is responsible for the performance of general archival duties in the  Archives Center, National Museum of American History. Answers E-mail, letters, faxes, and phone requests on a half time basis.  Receives orders for images, and audio-visual materials.  Records orders, and explains the ordering process and usage fees to customers.  Provides research assistance, to include searching for images without captions, fulfilling large photocopy orders.  Provides answers to questions that patrons would need to perform research.  Assists professional archivists, museum specialist, and other personnel in the functions in support of the mission of the Archives Center.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower. level.  Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Selective Factors:   (Applicants must meet all of these mandatory requirements in order to be considered qualified to compete for a position.)  

1.      Knowledge of American History.
2.      Knowledge of elementary archival principles, methods, and techniques.
3.      Knowledge of organizational skills associated with handling and recording orders and payments received.
                                                                                	
Quality Ranking Factors:  (These factors are not mandatory to be considered for a position, but will be used to determine who are the highest qualified candidates among those who meet the selective factors.)  

1.      Knowledge of historical documentation, research topics, and research methods.
2.      Ability to handle audio visual and archival materials.
3.      Knowledge of basic cataloguing systems.

NOTE:  RELOCATION EXPENSES MAY BE PAID AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SMITHSONIAN.

It is very important that you fully address how your work experience and education/training meet both the specialized experience requirement and the selective factors.  This information will be used to determine whether or not you are qualified for this vacancy.  Selective factors establish qualifications to be eligible to compete for the position.  Quality Ranking Factors are not mandatory but are used to determine who are the highest qualified candidates among those eligible to compete for the position.
