I’d like
to correct two of the factual errors that have come up most often during the
certification discussion. First, several persons mentioned a recertification
fee. There is no such fee, and there has never been a fee for recertification. Second, several
persons suggested that the Academy of Certified Archivists portrays the
examination as a substitute for, or as the equivalent of, graduate study. The truth
is that a Master’s Degree is a basic requirement for taking the archival
certification examination. That requirement can only be waived by a vote of the
full Academy board, and the board has done so only twice in its history. In
both cases, the individuals had many years managing archives and records of distinguished
contributions to the profession. For
accurate information, please visit the Academy’s website at www.certifiedarchivists.org. Lee ==--00--== Leon C. Miller, Manuscripts Librarian Special Collections, Jones Hall,
