Re: Scanned Photographs, archival packrats, digital packrats, etc
Frankly, I use a digital camera myself. I hate taking horrible photos and having to pay for developing them. Now I just delete the 29 mistakes and email the one good one to the family. I don't worry about the preservation issue for my personal stuff because it is my hope that no archivist should ever have to deal with my stuff. I also don't keep papers I've written, newspaper articles with my name in it somewhere, etc. Someone else wants to keep it that's their problem. (Okay, my mother keeps a scrapbook for me, although I've told her I don't want it) I keep busy enough with other folks' papers and photos that I have no desire to add to the mass (mess?)
I do have one relative who takes digital photos galore everywhere. At Christmas he burns a year's worth of photos onto CDs for gifts. I'm trying to figure out a tactful way to teach him "appraisal"
