Re: ARMA & environmental recommendations for paper



I have never had a records manager tell me that "heat doesn't really have any
effect on paper." The statement seems to me to be in the same class of
statements as "Everyone else's parents are letting them do that!" In short, I
wouldn't necessarily believe that the Iron Mountain representative had actually
heard any such thing from a number of ARMA members.

Also, in response to Ms. Asuncao's statement that heat only has an indirect
effect on paper:  In fact, heat has both an indirect and a direct affect on
paper. Higher temperatures increase the rate of chemical reactions in paper,
thus increasing the speed at which paper deteriorates. This occurs whether or
not mold is present.
