Summer Internships - Annapolis, MD

The Maryland State Archives is currently accepting applications for its 2002 Summer Internship Program. Attached, please find the job announcement and its location on the world wide web.

Who:  Undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland institutions of higher learning or Maryland residents attending out-of-state colleges and
universities are eligible to apply. The competitive selection process is based on an evaluation of the following application materials:

          Cover letter
          Maryland State Employment Application Form (available on-line at: http://dop.state.md.us/recruit.htm) or by calling the Archives at (410) 260-6400
          College transcripts
          A letter of recommendation from a college faculty member
          A sample of the applicant's academic writing

What:  During the ten-week paid summer program, interns will engage in a variety of activities related to processing, managing, and interpreting archival collections.
Individual intern assignments will vary, but duties may include research, writing, web design, electronic imaging, computer programming, record stripping, and
accessioning. The intern program includes a heavy focus on the application of computer technology to both the historical method and archival practice. Some
assignments may require periodic off-site work. Interns will receive a wage of $9.25 per hour, paid bi-weekly.

When:  Wednesday, June 12 - Tuesday, August 20, 2002

notified of decisions by April 19.  It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
